What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a gentle, hands-on form of manual therapy that focuses on restoring the body’s natural balance and mobility.

Osteopathy

Our manual osteopath, Mahnaz, assesses how the body’s various structure (muscles, joints, fascia and organs) work together. She then uses precise manual techniques including visceral therapy and craniosacral therapy to improve movement, reduce pain and to support the body’s natural ability to heal.

Osteopathy can help with a wide range of concerns including:

  • Muscle tension and pain – including hip, pelvic, back, neck and shoulder
  • Joint concerns such as osteoarthritis
  • Sports injuries such as tendonitis, and rotator cuff injuries
  • Postural imbalances
  • Headaches and migraines
  • TMJ – jaw pain and dysfunctions
  • Postural strain during pregnancy and recovery after child birth
  • Colic and digestive discomfort in infants with feeding difficulties and/or tension related to birth strain

By treating the body as an interconnected whole, osteopathy aims not only to relieve symptoms but also to address the underlying causes and to promote long-term health and wellbeing.

Osteopathic Visceral Therapy

Osteopathic Visceral Therapy focuses on improving the mobility and function of the internal organs (viscera) such as the stomach, liver, intestines, and diaphragm.

Using precise and subtle hands-on techniques, Mahnaz helps release restrictions in the tissues and connective structures that surround and support these organs. When the organs move freely and in harmony with the rest of the body, circulation, nerve supply, and overall function can improve.

While supporting the body’s natural ability to regulate and heal itself, visceral osteopathy can help with:

  • Digestive discomfort
  • Abdominal tension
  • Breathing restrictions
  • Postural imbalances

Osteopathic Craniosacral Therapy

Osteopathic Craniosacral Therapy focuses on the subtle movements of the skull, spine, and sacrum, as well as the membranes and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord. Using very light touch, Mahnaz assesses and releases restrictions within the craniosacral system to help improve the body’s natural balance and nervous system function. This calming approach may help relieve:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Neck and back pain
  • Jaw tension (TMJ)
  • Concussion recovery
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Chronic pain and tension
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Nervous system dysregulation

By supporting the body’s inherent self-healing mechanisms, craniosacral therapy encourages deep relaxation and overall wellbeing.
