Three Naturopathic Remedies For A Vaginal Yeast Infection

July 06, 20262 min read

Although yeast infections are an extremely common type of infection, it is also one of the most vexatious. Targeting the genital area, a yeast infection, also known as Candida Albicans, the vagina is infected with an overgrowth of yeast, which results in itching, redness, pain and chunky discharge. It’s of vital importance to treat this infection sooner rather than later, to prevent pain from escalating and lead to worse side effects such as cracks and sores in the genital area. There are a number of natural ways to treat a yeast infection for those that do not want to rely on antibiotics or over the counter medication.

Inspirit Health Group has comprised a list of five effective, natural remedies to treat a yeast infection to have your comfort restored.

1. Probiotics and Suppositories

A yeast infection disrupts the healthy balance of yeast and bacteria in the body. Taking a probiotic helps to balance out and correct the bacteria and yeast and rid of the infection. A probiotic that contains the bacteria known as Lactobacillus acidophilus helps stop the overgrowth of candida and other bacteria. Probiotics can come in the form of capsules to orally consume or suppositories that are inserted in the vaginal region. Plain yogurt is also an easily accessible, affordable and cost-effective probiotic that women have used for decades to treat their yeast infections. Starting a regimen of probiotic suppositories for about 10 days can effectively kill the yeast overgrowth much sooner.

2. Dietary Counselling

Sugar intake and excessive carbohydrates have a significant intake on one’s health and can trigger growth in bacteria and yeast. Having a low-sugar diet can regulate and balance the yeast in the digestive system. A diet that is high in sugar can increase the candida growth in the system in the vaginal region. At Inspirit Health Group, our naturopathic experts can help you make the necessary lifestyle changes and improvements for a healthier lifestyle and reducing the risk of infections. We use dietary sciences and healthy foods to treat disease and infections and restore your physical and mental well-being.

3. Antifungal Oil of Oregano

Oil of oregano may already be found in your kitchen cabinets! Primarily used to enhance meal flavourings, oil of oregano can also be effective in restricting the growth of Candida Albicans, which allows for a yeast infection to develop. When taken by mouth on a daily basis, the oil of oregano acts as an antifungal to treat the yeast infection or inhaled as a form of aromatherapy.
